Before touching up your color wet your ends with water. Just moisten them up a little. Thus, if you mess with the product and your ends get into the color it will not absorb as much of it.

After putting the color on your roots, spray your ends again with water keeping them damp. Pull on them a little to get them to stand out away as much as possible from the base of roots.
